Dear Czech community, with https://download.geofabrik.de/europe/czech-republic-latest.osm.pbf soon reaching 1 GB, it becomes time for me to create sub-regions for your country on the Geofabrik download server. I see that you have mapped these regions in OSM on admin level 3: Střední Čechy Severovýchod Praha Jihozápad Jihovýchod Severozápad Moravskoslezsko Střední Morava And you have mapped the kraje on admin level 4: Královéhradecký kraj Olomoucký kraj Liberecký kraj Ústecký kraj Plzeňský kraj Středočeský kraj Kraj Vysočina Praha Jihočeský kraj Pardubický kraj Jihomoravský kraj Karlovarský kraj Moravskoslezský kraj Zlínský kraj I understand that the adminlevel3 regions are just statistical regions that have little administrative relevance, and the adminlevel4 regions are the "true" regions. My question to you is, which would be more useful to have? I would prefer to use the adminlevel3 regions because there are fewer of them. But are these regions actually well known - would someone who lives in, say, Olomouc, immediately know that they are in the Střední Morava region, or are these regions so obscure and unimporant that it would be better to use the kraje for splitting? Another question - would you add subregions to the whole country or will there be only these regions available and not a CZ as a whole country.

Hi, thank you all for the feedback. Based on what you have said, I will use the kraje for splitting even though it's a little more work. With regards to Praha, I think I'll use the same approach that I have used for Germany's Brandenburg area which surrounds Berlin like a donut: https://download.geofabrik.de/europe/germany.html - there's Brandenburg-with-Berlin and Berlin on its own, but no Brandenburg-with-a-hole. If anyone has some sort of toolchain that is based on the shape or geopackage files, they would have to modify that. Is that a issue for anyone? Bye Frederik
and what about updates (*.osc.gz)? Updates will be available for whole CZ or for sub-regions only?

Hi, I have now set this up as discussed: https://download.geofabrik.de/europe/czech-republic.html Let me know if something looks odd. -- It will take a few days for the regional taginfo to catch up but once it does you will be able to see per-kraj taginfo statistics on pages like https://taginfo.geofabrik.de/europe:czech-republic:karlovarsky/ Bye Frederik -- Frederik Ramm ## eMail frederik na remote.org ## N49°00'09" E008°23'33" _______________________________________________ talk-cz mailing list talk-cz na openstreetmap.org https://lists.openstreetmap.org/listinfo/talk-cz https://openstreetmap.cz/talkcz
